Gafurov district

Gafurov district administrative district in the Sughd area the Republic of Tajikistan.

It was formed January 31, 1957 as the Khujand area. In 1964 - 1978's. called Sovetabadskim area. Decision of the Supreme Soviet of the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic in 1978 after the Soviet statesman, academician Bobodzhana Gafurova renamed Gafurov district.

Geography

Gafurov district is located in the Fergana Valley. On the west it is bordered with Matcha-Jabbar and Rasulovsky areas in the east - and Asht Kanibadam district Sogd in the north - with the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan, in the south - with the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan.
