The history of the holiday
Introduced in 1945 [3], but since 1948 a working day [4].

Nevertheless, the festival retained its value, produced holiday cards and heard congratulations to the front.
For the first time was widely celebrated in the Soviet Union only after two decades under Brezhnev. In the same anniversary Victory Day 1965 once again became non-functional.
In Soviet times voennye parades on Red Square on May 9 were in the Jubilee 1965, 1975, 1985 and 1990 [5], an annual parade held on November 7. [6].
Also, c-sixties original military parades were held May 9 in many Soviet cities. On this day, military units and military schools were marched through the streets of cities to war memorials or monuments to fallen soldiers, which were held rallies and laying flowers [5].
After the collapse of the USSR May 9 parade on Red Square were not conducted prior to the anniversary in 1995. Then there were two in Moscow parade: Red Square (on foot) and at Poklonnaya Hill (with troops and military equipment).
Since then, the parades on Red Square became an annual event - but without combat equipment. Since 2008, the parade was again conducted with the participation of military equipment, including military aircraft.
Festive processions in honor of Victory Day is traditionally held in all cities of the hero, the military districts in several large cities in Russia and CIS countries.
On this day, traditionally found the front, laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Monument of Glory and military prowess, thunder fireworks.
